The 2017 Iva Valley Football Tournament has kicked-off at the Iva Valley School play ground, Enugu, with a charge on the participants to exhibit high level of discipline and spirit of oneness.
Declaring the event open, the South-East director of the Nigeria Nationwide League and member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, described sports as a veritable tool for unity, peace and crime prevention.
Amaraizu, a superintendent of police and public relations officer of the Enugu State Police Command described sports as a veritable instrument to promote unity and peace in the community and also bring about development.
Pointing out that young talents could be discovered via tournaments like this and help enhance the image of otherwise unknown communities, he commended the sponsor of the tournament, Uche Okoro Camara, a Nigerian Football Federation-licensed football intermediary and the organizers of the tournament particularly the chairman, Dimeze Darlington and the secretary, Odeh Ejike, for working with the sponsor.
The football league consists of Groups A and B, with the former comprising teams such as Forestry Hill, Pottery, Valley Road 11 and Camp 11. Group B has Agu-Abor, Valley Road 1 and Camp 1. The group matches will end on November 26, the semi-finals will be played on December 3, and December 10, respectively, while the third place match will be played on the 17th December 17.
The grand finale will also be played on December 17.
