Members of the Peoples Democratic Party contesting for the position of national chairman have pledged to support anyone elected to lead the party at its convention scheduled for December.
Briefing journalists after their meeting held at Government House, Enugu, late Sunday night, the governor of Ekiti State and chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, said that the meeting was called to deliberate on issues such as the party’s national convention and the Anambra State governorship election which holds this Saturday.
“We are in Enugu State Government House to deliberate on our national convention and took time off to meet with our chairmanship aspirants believing that we want to have a convention that all parties in Nigeria will emulate,” he said.
Noting that the convention will attain acceptable global standard and serve as a template for other parties in the country to emulate, he added that the PDP’s top hierarchy had resolved to put their differences aside in the party’s interest. “We are on one page and the page is PDP first always,” he said.
Governor Fayose was optimistic that the party’s candidate will emerge victorious in the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State and enjoined the electorate to ensure that the polls are credible. He also added that the PDP will regain power in the 2019 general elections.
“Our aspirants – that is the PDP chairmanship aspirants – have agreed to work together and whoever emerges as the chairman of the party will be supported by all of us,” said Fayose who had weeks earlier declared he would run for president.
He commended the governor and people of Enugu State for hosting the meeting and appreciated them for their hospitality throughout their stay in the Coal City State.
The meeting was attended by governors elected on the PDP platform, interim national chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and party chieftains.
