The Enugu State police command has honoured the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state with an award of excellence.
Presenting the award midweek when the newly elected executive members of the chapel led by Comrade Emma Nweze paid him a courtesy visit in his office, the commissioner of police, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, thanked the journalists for being “worthy partners” to the police in the fight against crime.
He described them as a huge part of the successes recorded by the police, noting that “police and journalists are partners in progress because we recognise the role of the press in crime investigation”.
Danmallam commended the members for the resolution of the recent crisis in the chapel, urging them to ensure that the peace is sustained. Danmallam congratulated the new executives on their elections and advised aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and support the new executive.
Comrade Nweze thanked the commissioner for the cordial relationship that exists between the press and the police in the state and for the award presented to the chapel. “We are for peace and progress of our members and are here to get your fatherly advice and blessing,” he said.
In a vote of thanks, veteran journalist Chief Odogwu Odemenam, thanked the police commissioner for both the honour bestowed on the chapel and in granting them audience. He assured him of continued partnership with the police.
