The deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been applauded for embarking on a massive infrastructural development across Enugu State.
He received the commendation during his two-day inspection tour of projects that he attracted to Enugu West Senatorial District.
Senator Ekweremadu who was pleased with the pace of work at different project sites, said he was fulfilled because developing his environment was the main reason he ventured into politics.
According to him, when leaders have big dreams for their people the result is often rapid development.
He pointed out that with the Nenwe/Oduma/Uburu road with a spur at Ishiagu which is at 80 percent completion, economic activities will be accelerated within the area.
The deputy senate president recalled that prior to his election into the Senate, no part of Aninri Local Government Area had electricity or asphalt road. “The extent of development of any society depends on the size of the vision of their leaders. So if you have leaders who have big vision, the society will achieve a lot. But when leaders have limited vision, then that will be the extent of development of that society,” he said.
Ekweremadu recalled that, “growing up as a young child, I saw this road as a very big challenge to our people, but today we are achieving our vision for our people. What we are doing here, we are also doing in all other parts of our constituency”.
Special assistant on media to the deputy senate president, Dr. Luke Mgboh, explained that Senator Ekweremadu assured the people that all projects he had facilitated would be completed in record time and according to specifications.
Other projects inspected include the Ukpa/Ujiri/Ndeabo/Lekwa erosion control project at Oji River, Onuakanu/Utin road, Amagu/Amaeze road, Amaeze/Ihueze link road and Ivo Bailey Bridge, Ihuibe/Ihiozike road, Okpara road, all in Okpanku.
Others are Aninri East Development Centre Secretariat under construction, an e-library which JAMB has approved through the intervention of Senator Ekweremadu to be used by students in the area during UME examinations; Empowerment and Training Centre, designed to include a conference centre, lock-up stores and hotel, all in Mpu, plus the new Mpu/Oduma road under construction.
In his speech, the National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. Ude Okoye who was part of the entourage extolled Senator Ekweremadu on the scale of infrastructural development that he has attracted to Enugu West, adding that he has really shown exemplary leadership.
Hon. Ude Okoye said: “It is an act of providence that you became our leader. PDP is proud of you. It is not surprising that we are here today to see these laudable projects that you have attracted at a time the ruling Party APC has failed the nation and you have decided to labor yourself the more to give dividends of democracy to your people.”
The site engineers handling the various projects assured Senator Ekweremadu of strict adherence to specifications and timely completion.
