Enugu Govt. Blocks Access to Unprotected Pedestrian Bridge

Officials of the Enugu State ministry of works have blocked access to a pedestrian bridge at Akwata, Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, for additional safety features to be installed.

“On the issue of the pedestrian bridge at Akwata, Ogbete Main Market, Enugu constructed over the years,” read a statement issued Monday evening by the government. “The present administration is already aware of the problem as well as other similar structures identified at Peter Okoye street, Uwani and Lagos street, Asata, Enugu.”

The statement noted further that due process to enable the relevant ministry to commence work and complete same is ongoing.

“Members of the public are, therefore, advised to stop using the bridge until the necessary safety measures are put in place, accordingly,” the statement added.
