The Enugu State police command has arrested a gang of armed robbery suspects who had in the past unleashed terror on motorists, commuters and inhabitants of the Uzo Uwani Local Government Area.
The suspects comprising Anthony Ogbobe of Uvuruanuma Abbi town; Eze Chidera of Alor Uno Nsukka; Nwodo Chinedu of Akpugoezedike and Onyebuchi Ugwuoke of Abbi were arrested on Wednesday, May 31, following a tip-off.
A statement issued by Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, a superintendent of police and the command’s public relations officer, Enugu police command, indicated that during the operation, a cut-to-size pump action as well as other offensive weapons were recovered from the suspects who are currently helping the police operatives in their investigations in relation to their alleged activities.
He further disclosed that the commissioner of police in Enugu State, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, has reassured Enugu residents of his command’s determination to sustain and improve on measures introduced to prevent as well as detect crime in the state.
Speaking on the exploits of the command’s operatives along Uvuru by Nkpologu Adani axis of Uzo Uwani-Nsukka road in Enugu, the police commissioner said that the “suspected hoodlums who were perpetrating some heinous crime ranging from attack of motorists and commuters, armed robbery amongst others were promptly nabbed and their weapons recovered”.
He attributed the positive result of the operation to a well coordinated intelligence information about the suspected hoodlums and their cohorts.
