Former governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, has extolled the virtues of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, describing him as a “very benevolent man with an uncommon grace”.
Speaking at a colourful reception held Wednesday in his honour at the Government House, where he had gone on a courtesy visit alongside senior political office holders from Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Dr. Nnamani told the large gathering that the Enugu State governor had given him “a second chance” and “reinvigorated” him.
A visibly emotional Nnamani who is also the PDP candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial Zone said: “I am very grateful. I am thanking all of you and the governor who made this possible. I am very surprised with the level of reception I am getting. Who can explain? Who can decipher? Nobody can explain this. If it were to be written, nobody can write it; if we were to draw it, nobody can draw it. It is only God who can explain this.
“When I look around, I begin to wonder if I really deserve this honour. I am saying to the governor, let that benevolence which God has given me through you, let that benevolence be shown also to you in Jesus’ name.”
It was the first time in 12 years the former governor would be visiting the Government House where he served for two terms (1999 – 2007).
Also speaking at the event that drew a large crowd of party faithful, the chairman of the PDP in Enugu State, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, observed that the overwhelming gathering has vindicated the party’s insistence on fielding candidates with grassroots appeal.
“Without his benevolence, most of us won’t achieve what we have achieved today,” he added.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, noted that although the people of Enugu East Senatorial Zone said they had come to thank him, he thought it should be otherwise. “If I should place things the way it should be, I don’t know who should thank the other. The only thing I do is to give all due thanks to God,” he said to a resounding applause.
He thanked members of the zone for the massive support they gave him in the 2015 governorship election and appealed to them to repeat same in the 2019 election.
