Enugu State Police Command has arrested and paraded 30 suspected criminals involved in kidnapping, murdering and robbing of innocent citizens in some parts of the state.
Among those paraded before journalists on Friday, August 16, were alleged killers of the two Catholic priests, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, who was parish priest of St. James, the Greater Parish, Ugbawka, in Nkanu East Local Government Area and Rev. Fr Clement Rapuruchukwu, Ugwu, Parish Priest of St Mary Catholic Church, Obunofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Also paraded were suspected murderers of the Secretary of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.
The command has also arrested and paraded kidnappers of the traditional ruler of Obom Autonomous Community, Agbogugu, HRH Igwe Sunday Orji, and his wife.
Suspected Armed robbers and Cultists were also among those paraded.
Briefing newsmen on the successes recorded by the Command so far, the Police Commissioner, Sulaiman Balarabe said that Reverend Father Paul Offu who hailed from Okpatu in Udi local government area, was kidnapped and murdered along Agbudu road, Awgu local government area of Enugu State on 1St August, 2019 at about 1730hrs.”
He disclosed that , “two suspects have been arrested responsible for the dastardly act.”
Balarabe continued, ” The following suspects were responsible for the kidnap and murder of Rev. Fr. Paul Office and the kidnapping of Igwe HRH Sunday Orji and his wife. Suspects arrested so far in connection with the case are: Ibrahim Adamu, 25yrs from Taraba State, Idris Tobe ,28yrs. While three suspects. Garbage Basulugu, Mohammed Lagu and Mojunpan Duma are still at large”, he said.
The Commissioner said that Rev. Fr. Ugwu was kidnapped and murdered on 14/3/2019 at about 2030 hours. According to him, four suspects comprising Sunday Chibuko, 30, of Ezeagu Local Government Area; Benjamin Osoagwu, 28, from Obolo-Eke, Udenu Local Government Area; Wasiu Ajomale of Ikenne Local Government of Ogun State have been arrested in that regard.
He added that one of the suspects, Kelechi, from Oji River was still at large. He told newsmen that the suspects were arrested in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states, noting that investigation was still ongoing.
On the kidnap and murder of secretary of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, he said “the victim’s phone that was stolen from him was traced to Idris Umaru in Edo State, but was arrested at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, and brought to Enugu for further investigation.”
