In continuation of his administration’s efforts to cushioning the effects of COVID-19 in Enugu State , Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has distributed COVID-19 palliatives to some Christian women groups comprising Catholic Women Organisation, CWO Enugu, Awgu and Nsukka Catholic dioceses, Mothers Union, Anglican Communion of Enugu diocese, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria women and the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim. Women Association of Enugu Province.
Ugwuanyi who distributed the items which included bags of 50kg foreign rice, cartons of tomato paste, cartons of noodles , some Jerry cans of groundnut oil and some pieces of face masks was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo.
Presenting the items to the leaders of the women groups, the Deputy Governor said that the government is aware of hard times faced by the people as a result of the COVID-19 knockdown and had provided palliatives to alleviate their sufferings. ” Coronavirus today is in the community but most of us don’t even believe it is existing. Some said it’s white people’s disease , now it has entered the community , ‘ She said.
She said that people should maintain social and physical distancing. “Don’t kiss, instead, blow a kiss on the air. You must not get close to anybody “.
She urged the women leaders to share the items judiciously, saying, “You are mothers and we know that mothers are always careful. Share these items to everyone who should get them As you are sharing this, tell the people you must not close to anybody. Use this medium to get to the people, there is coronavirus”.
The deputy governor advised the security men who are at the borders to stop collecting bribe from travellers who come into the State , looking for death sentence..
Each of the women groups got 300 bags of 50kg rice, 300 bags of semovita , 50 cartons of noodles, 180 cartons tomatoes paste, 50 groundnut oil and 100.face masks.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigerian women group received 100 bags of 50Kg foreign Rice, 40 Jerry cans(25litres) of groundnut oil, 150 cartons of tomato paste, 200 bags of Semovita and 100 cartons of noodles.
The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Women Association of Enugu Province got 20 bags of 50 kg foreign rice, five jerry cans of groundnut oil (25 litres), 10 cartons of tomato paste, 100 bags of semovita and 50 cartons of noodles.
Speaking after receiving the gifts, national President of CWO, Mrs Nwanneka Okoro thanked the state government for the gifts. She prayed that the coronavirus pandemic will come to an end.
On her part, the president of the Mothers Union, Anglican communion and wife of the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Enugu diocese, Anglican Communion, Mrs Joyce Chukwuma also thanked governor Ugwuanyi for his gesture. She promised that the items will be shared judiciously.
The PFN women led by Reverend Mrs Ndidi Egbo, who represented the State Women Leader, Rich Mmadu, thanked governor Ugwuanyi for his kind gesture to their members.
Supervising Apostle Kingsley Nwachukwu, Provincial Secretary, Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, who represented Senior Apostle Ogechukwu Ohalebe ,in his remarks, thanked Ugwuanyi for the gifts. He promised that the gifts will be shared to their indigent members judiciously.
Meanwhile, a group, Interswitch has donated 1,500 test kits to Enugu State government.
