Enugu State Government has extended the distribution of the COVID-19 palliative to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers,(NURTW), Tricycle operators and Motorcycle associations in Enugu East senatorial zone of the state.
Presenting the items which included bags of rice, cartons of noodles, cartons of tomato paste, fabric face masks, bags of semovita and jerry cans of groundnut oil, to the leaders of the three groups at Agbani, Nkanu West local government area of the state, representative of the Deputy Governor and member, representing Enugu south Urban state constituency in the House of Assembly, Sam Ngene, said the items were donated to the state by TETFund and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the people.
He said that COVID-19 is a pandemic disease that is of a global concern. He urged the people to continue to observe the safety measures to contain the spread of the disease. “Ensure regular hand washing, maintain personal hygiene, observe social and physical distancing and stay safe., ” he advised.
He urged them to share the items judiciously to their indigent members
In their remarks, leaders of the three groups, covering Isi Uzo, Nkanu east and Nkanu west local government areas , Godfrey Okonkwo, (NURTW), Iloabuchi Edeh Njoku (Keke) and Hon. Okwudili Ezeh (Okada) respectively, thanked the state governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his kind gesture to the members of their union.
They prayed that COVID-19 pandemic will go soon.

Receiving the items on behalf of his members, the State Chairman of the Tricycle (keke) Riders Association, Benjamin Ikah, expressed delight at Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s benevolence and passionate interest in the welfare of the people, especially the less privileged.
He said that, “Today is not the first day His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is remembering us. The governor has been consistent in assisting the Keke riders to thrive in their business.”
“We are always happy with this present administration in Enugu State. It seems we are always the first when it comes to what goes to the less privileged, especially those of us who are struggling to make ends meet. We cannot thank His Excellency enough for remembering us in this difficult time”, he said .
In their remarks, the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Health, Sam Ngene and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Mike Ogbuekwe, who represented the Enugu State Emergency/Palliatives Committee on COVID-19 at the event, said that Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration is committed to ensuring that the spread of the virus is contained in the state and the pandemic does not adversely affect the livelihood of the people, most especially the less privileged.
